The name Milas is a brand in the carpet world. Known since the late 17th century, Milas carpets reached their peak in the 18th and 19th centuries; Milas carpets can still be found today in European museums, palaces, and private collections.\n\nThe museum occupies a historic mansion under the administration of the Milas Museum Directorate. In the exhibition, you can see authentic Milas carpets from the 19th and 20th centuries, their various compositional styles and weaving techniques. There is also a workshop section — demonstrating how carpet-making was traditionally taught to children.\n\nThe distinctive characteristics of Milas carpets: specific geometric forms, predominantly mihrabi designs, a dominant palette of red, beige, and brown, and characteristic "elibelinde" motifs. The number of museums in Turkey presenting such a comprehensive carpet collection can be counted on one hand.
