Getting around Bodrum

From the airport to the bays, from dolmuş minibuses to the Kos ferry: how to get around the peninsula, how to pay and who to call.

Airport → Bodrum

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is 37 km from Bodrum town centre.

The Muğla metropolitan MUTTAŞ line 48-24 meets every domestic arrival and also stops outside the international terminal. No booking needed; pay by card on board.
Stops: Güvercinlik and Bodrum Torba Bus Station. Fares (tariff of 18 May 2026): Güvercinlik ₺220, Torba Bus Station ₺270.
From Torba Bus Station, dolmuş 2-81 runs to the town centre every 30 minutes, day and night. For Turgutreis, Yalıkavak and other villages, continue by dolmuş from the central garage.

The meter is mandatory. Muğla metropolitan tariff: 150 TL flag fall, 50 TL per km, minimum fare 250 TL (February 2026).
No extra charge may be added for luggage or extra passengers, and the tariff must be displayed in the car.

Private transfers and car hire are easy to find at the airport; agree the price in writing beforehand.

Dolmuş minibuses reach every corner of the peninsula — cheap, frequent and, in summer, running past midnight.

Peninsula lines leave from Bodrum Merkez Garaj, the old bus station in the town centre on Cevat Şakir Caddesi.
Intercity coaches use the new bus station at Torba. Line 2-81 links the two every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day.

In the summer 2026 timetable the last departures are between midnight and 2 am (e.g. Turgutreis 01:30, Yalıkavak 02:00). Services thin out in winter.

Cash boarding on Muğla public transport officially ended in 2020: pay with a MuğlaKart or a contactless bank card or phone.
Carry a contactless card — don’t count on cash.

Ferries and fast boats leave from Bodrum Castle Harbour, Bodrum Cruise Port and Turgutreis D-Marin; the main operators are Bodrum Express Lines and Bodrum Feribot.
The crossing takes roughly 20–45 minutes depending on the boat. Boats sail all year, less often in winter.
In winter Greece is 1 hour behind Türkiye — plan your return time accordingly.
In summer there are also sailings from Turgutreis to Kalymnos and Leros.

Kos and the neighbouring islands are in the Schengen area; passports are checked at the port.
Since 10 April 2026 non-EU visitors are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) with fingerprints and a photo — allow extra time on your first crossing.
For Turkish citizens, the visa-on-arrival scheme was extended for a year from 1 April 2026: 12 islands including Kos, Rhodes, Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos and Symi, for up to 7 days.

The car ferry sails from Bodrum Castle Harbour to Körmen pier near Datça in about 1 hour 45 minutes; by road it takes about 4 hours.
September 2026 timetable: daily in both directions at 09:00, 12:00 and 17:00. Online ticket sales close 2 hours before departure.

Day trips to Karaada and the bays leave from the harbour below Bodrum Castle during the season; ask on board about the route and return time.

In July and August the peninsula’s population passes one million; expect heavy traffic between Konacık and Ortakent and at village entrances.
Municipal car parks are run by Bodrum Belediye A.Ş.: Pazar Yeri Altı, Cevat Şakir, Çarşı, Kültür Sitesi and Gümüşlük.
Helmets are compulsory on motorbikes and scooters. Ask the rental company which licence you need.
As a general rule, a foreign driving licence is valid for 6 months from your entry into Türkiye.
