Euromos Ancient City

One of Asia's best-preserved Zeus temples, with 16 columns still standing. An ancient city easily accessible among the olive groves.

Euromos is an ancient Carian city located 12 km from the center of Milas, nestled in the foothills of Kızılbayır, along the D525 highway. Today it is known especially for the Temple of Zeus Lepsynos—a structure that ranks among the most beautifully preserved ancient temples on the Asian continent.

The temple was built in the 2nd century AD; 16 of its columns still stand, their capitals largely intact. Some columns bear votive inscriptions—the names of those who made donations to the temple, carved into stone nearly 1800 years ago.

Other parts of the ancient city include:

• Theatre: Partially excavated on the slopes of Kızılbayır, currently undergoing restoration but visible from outside. • Agora: The ancient city's marketplace and civic center. • Bathhouse: Remnants from the Roman period. • City walls: The ancient defensive system of the settlement.

Three things make Euromos special: (1) the exceptional preservation of the Zeus temple, (2) its location among olive groves—a photographer's dream, and (3) easy access. Just 50 meters from the D525 highway, with parking right at the entrance. Far more convenient than many larger ancient sites.

The viewing terrace along the path to the theatre is one of the finest spots for photography.
