Known locally as "Masa Dağı" (Table Mountain), Asar Dağı is a volcanic elevation rising above Muğla. Its true significance lies in the ruins of the ancient city of Mobolla at its summit.
Mobolla was a settlement reaching back to the Carian era; it's believed that the modern name of Muğla itself derives from this place. So the city you're standing in right now takes its name from the very mountain beneath your feet.
At the summit you can see: • Rock tombs • Unexcavated foundations of ancient structures • Traces of ancient walls
As of 2026, archaeological excavations are underway in this area — so the landscape you see here may well change in the coming years.
The climb is moderately challenging, taking 1–1.5 hours. There are no facilities at the summit; bring water and snacks. From the peak, you can enjoy panoramic views of Muğla and a spectacular sunset.
