Muğla Museum opened to the public in 1992 in a former prison building and houses Turkey's first Natural History Museum. It consists of three main exhibition halls arranged around a courtyard, plus an art gallery.
The collection largely comprises finds from the ancient city of Stratonikeia in Yatağan district, from Lagina, and from the ancient city of Cedrae on Sedir Island. The museum's most striking sections include:
• Natural History Hall: Animal and plant fossils dating from 5–9 million years ago, excavated in 1992 from Kaklıcatepe in Özlüce Village. • Gladiator Hall: Original gladiator skeleton from Stratonikeia — one of Anatolia's best-preserved gladiator remains. • Ethnography Hall: Clothing, textiles, and everyday objects from the Muğla region. • Courtyard exhibition: Sculptures, column capitals, and architectural fragments.
