Bafa Lake was once connected to the sea as the Latmos Gulf; alluvial deposits from the Büyük Menderes River transformed it into an inland lake. Designated as a Nature Conservation Area, the lake is one of Turkey's most important birdwatching destinations.\n\nAncient ruins—castles, monasteries, small temples—are scattered along the lake's shore and on its islands. Boat tours (approximately 2 hours) offer a chance to explore these islands. The village's waterfront restaurants serve home-cooked meals and fresh lake fish.
