The place where you are now is Halikarnassos, one of the most important harbor cities of the ancient world… Today known as Bodrum.

This is not merely a holiday destination; it is a vibrant stage of history rising above approximately 3,000 years of continuous settlement. Situated in the heart of Carian civilization, Halikarnassos experienced its golden age especially in the 4th century B.C., during the reign of Mausolos, Satrap of Caria.

The Mausoleion, the monumental tomb of Mausolos—the very origin of the word "mausoleum"—was built here and is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. This structure was far more than a tomb; it was the pinnacle of power, aesthetics, and architecture.

Halikarnassos was also the birthplace of Herodotus, one of history's first great storytellers. These lands were the center not only of what was lived, but of what was told.

In ancient times, the city was surrounded by mighty walls. You can still see traces today of this defensive system, which protected the city through entrances like the Myndos Gate. Maritime trade, craftsmanship, and cultural exchange flourished intensely here.

When we reach the Middle Ages, another layer is added to Halikarnassos. In the 15th century, the Knights of St. John built Bodrum Castle, a structure built from reused ancient stones. In essence, this castle is part of the continuing story of Halikarnassos.

As you walk through Bodrum's streets today, you feel the rhythm of modern life on one side, and the quiet traces of the ancient world on the other. An ancient column fragment beneath a wall, old stones in a house's foundation... Here, the past is not hidden; it mingles with everyday life.

And this is what makes Halikarnassos most enchanting: It is not a museum… it is a living history.

Now, look around you once more. Perhaps at the very spot where you stand, thousands of years ago a merchant was negotiating, a sailor was docking at the harbor, or a historian was writing his notes.

And today, you are listening to the same story.
